Some causes of urinary incontinence are: weakness of the connective tissue surrounding the bladder, urinary tract infections, medications, caffeine, weakness of the sphincter muscles around the urethra, spasms of the bladder muscle, neurologic conditions, and behavioral activities.
Three of the most common types of incontinence are: Stress incontinence, overactive bladder and mixed urinary incontinence. Office testing is often needed in order to make the correct diagnosis. Testing allows for a detailed assessment that involves filling the bladder with fluid and recording bladder, muscle and nerve function at different volumes of bladder fullness.
